About the Festival
Each era, region, city has its unique popular culture.
Hong Kong’s pop culture (including films, television and pop music) flourished during the 1980s and 1990s. It has been a significant Hong Kong cultural brand over the years, representing our Hong Kong wit in playing with cultural elements of the East and the West, of the South and the North, of old and new and of high and low. The Chief Executive has indicated in the 2022 Policy Address that the current-term Government is committed to fostering the cultural development of Hong Kong to expedite its progression into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. While promoting Hong Kong’s pop culture is one of the most important parts of enriching arts, cultural and creative contents, we hope to maintain Hong Kong's unique position as a cultural metropolis through synergic development of cultural tourism and the creative industry.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is launching the first-ever annual "Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival" in April. The festival will introduce masterpieces of Hong Kong's pop culture golden era in the 1980s and 1990s from different perspectives, injecting new elements into the works and encouraging participation of young generation. A rich array of programmes, from pop concerts to thematic exhibitions, film screenings, outdoor and outreach activities, all showcase Hong Kong’s unique cultural creativity and vibrancy, and exhibit how Hong Kong's pop culture never ceases to fill our lives, live on, break new ground and evolve. We are looking forward to seeing new faces from mainland and different places of the world.
We are keen to collaborate with many more stakeholders and organisations, with a view to offering audience with diverse programmes and new experience. More exciting programmes will come, please stay tuned to our latest update and follow our IG@hk_pop_culture_festival.
