Yatfung (a.k.a Chet Lam) and Dr Liang Wern Fook are both authors, songwriters and envoys of urban folk music. In this talk, the two will share with younger generations of songwriters their personal stories, analysis and observations on how to run a creative business, build a sustainable creative career and tell one’s unique story to a global audience in the everchanging digital era.
Coming from a grassroots family in Hong Kong, Chet Lam’s musical creativity has led him to establish his own independent label, LYFE Music, published 22 albums and nine bestselling books, and won him numerous musical awards. He has travelled to more than 70 countries and engaged in cultural exchanges with artists around the world.
Being the representative figure of Xinyao and a recipient of the Singapore Cultural Medallion, Dr Liang Wern Fook works as an academic and an educator throughout the years while continuing to publish influential musical compositions and literary works.
The Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival@Huayi is presented by the Esplanade, sponsored and supported by the Hong Kong Special Administration Region Government and Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Singapore. It is the first overseas HKPCF programme, aim at providing audience in Singapore an incredible outdoor concert and a cultural exchange talk, it will showcase the talent and creativity of a new generation of Hong Kong singer song-writers.
